Pain medications such as Vicodin are prescribed to block the receptors in the brain that are responsible for the sensation of pain. Unfortunately, all too often, many people become addicted to the medication and therefore have trouble stopping its use. Symptoms of Vicodin abuse include slurred speech, impaired coordination, inattention to personal hygiene, and extremely small pupils. In addition, individuals who abuse Vicodin also tend to have mood swings and a loss of interest in their favorite activities. Symptoms of overuse of pain medications also include drowsiness, an inability to focus on tasks, and an obsession with finding ways of procuring more of the drug. While withdrawal can be difficult, with treatment, many people are able to detox on an outpatient basis.
If you or someone you know is struggling with an addiction to Vicodin, New Dimensions can help.
